Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Lift Trophee des Champions Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now won the season-opening cup on 14 separate occasions.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the match between the French league winners and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger found the scoring early on.

However, the southern French side struck twice late to seize a surprise advantage. Initially, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital equaliser in the final moments to send the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, stopping decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 4-1 penalty win.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the last thirteen seasons.
